SYMPTOMS
Some symptoms associated with Autism include:

problems developing nonverbal communication skills

lack of empathy

delay in, or lack of, learning to talk (as many as 40% of people with Autism never talk)

repetitive use of language (often repeat a phrase over and over)

difficulty understanding peoples' perspectives (may not understand person using humor)
-
an unusual focus on pieces when playing with toys (often focus on parts of toys, rather than the whole toy)
-
a need for routine
-
stereotyped behaviors such as body rocking and hand flapping
-
failure to make friends with children the same age
-
lack of interest in sharing enjoyment, interests, or accomplishments with other people
